Storms River Village, a sleepy hamlet in the heart of the picturesque Tsitsikamma region of the Garden Route , is home to an unusual ‘blast from the past’ in the guise of Marilyn’s 60’s Diner. This stunning retro eatery is located in the village center, adjacent to renowned adventure specialists Storms River Adventures.
Owners Jan and Ann du Rand have left no stone unturned in their quest to bring the magic of the 50’s and 60’s to the Garden Route. Marilyn’s décor reflects the vibrancy, rhythm and razzmatazz of the US some 60 years ago – black and white checked floors, neon rimmed signage, bold red and white colour scheme, pics and posters of period icons including Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, jukebox, ice cream parlour, pinball machine and a feast of period memorabilia. The jewel in the crown of the du Rand’s vision is undoubtedly the Cadillac Shack, an eye catching showcase of classic Caddies and Chevys. Jan’s amazing collection of rare classics includes a 1958 Cadillac Sedan de Ville, a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Seville, a 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible.
Marilyn’s menu reflects the essence of 1950/60’s US diner fare. Besides shakes and coke floats, look out for classics such as chilli cheese fries, salads, ribs, burgers, steaks, sundaes, banana splits, apple pies, waffles and flapjacks. Seafood lovers are not forgotten – tempting dishes include linefish, seafood pasta and a seafood platter. To spice up your life 60’s style, why not sip on a classic cocktail such as a Pink Lady, a Hurricane Carolyne or a Blueberry Margarita.
It’s hard to beat Marilyn’s for a nostalgic, themed wedding or function venue. With both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a cozy fireplace, this great eatery is suitable for year round patronage.
